Exemplary Report: 20 pts.

The genes function is clearly explained. Common alternative alleles are described along with their inheritance pattern (dominant, x-linked recessive, etc.) The genes map location is given along with the amino acid sequence for the protein produced from the gene. There is a description of why this gene is interesting and a discussion of future research needed to more fully understand this gene. The report shows a clear understanding of the genetics applicaple to this gene, is neat and well organized, with no superfulous or unexplained details.

Satisfactory Report: 16 pts.

The genes function is clearly explained. Common alternative alleles are described along with their inheritance pattern (dominant, x-linked recessive, etc.) The genes map location is given along with the amino acid sequence for the protein produced from the gene. The report is not always clearly written but everything asked for is there.

Serious Flaws But Nearly Satisfactory: 14 pts.

The genes function is clearly explained. Common alternative alleles are described along with their inheritance pattern (dominant, x-linked recessive, etc.) The report is not always clearly written but everything asked for is there.

Serious Flaws: 12 pts.

The report is incomplete with information repeated from the OMIM repoert without any clear explanationof what the statements mean. Student fails to summarize important information from the OMIM report such as the inheritance pattern of the gene and was unable ot follow links to other sites to get additional imformation such as the amino acid sequence.

Unable to Begin Effectively: 10 pts.

Student found a report at OMIM but clearly did not understand much of the report and simply repeated some randomly chosen details.

No Attempt: 0 pts.
